What is
Supported Independent Living?
Supported Independent Living (SIL) is an NDIS-funded support designed to assist people with disability who have higher support needs to live as independently, safely and confidently as possible in their own home. SIL provides personalized assistance and supervision with everyday activities, helping participants develop important life skills, maintain their independence and enjoy a fulfilling and meaningful lifestyle.
SIL supports can include assistance with personal care, preparing meals, household cleaning, laundry, managing daily routines, developing social and independent living skills, and participating in everyday household activities. SIL is generally suited to individuals who require significant support throughout the day and, where needed, overnight. These supports are commonly delivered in shared living arrangements with other NDIS participants, although SIL may also be provided to individuals living on their own, depending on their assessed support needs and circumstances.
At Inclusive Disability Assist, we understand that having a place to call home is about much more than simply having somewhere to live. It is about feeling safe, comfortable, respected and empowered to make decisions about your own life. Our dedicated and compassionate Disability Support Workers provide person-centered assistance that is tailored to each participant's individual needs, abilities, preferences and personal goals. We encourage participants to make their own choices, build meaningful relationships, develop confidence and take an active role in their everyday lives.
Our approach to Supported Independent Living focuses on promoting choice and control, respecting individual rights and dignity, and creating a welcoming and inclusive home environment. We work collaboratively with participants, their families, nominees, Support Coordinators and other relevant professionals to ensure that supports are responsive, appropriate and aligned with each participant's NDIS goals. Whether someone is developing new independent living skills, establishing daily routines or simply wanting greater confidence in managing everyday activities, our team is committed to providing the right level of assistance while encouraging independence wherever possible.
It is important to understand that SIL funding covers eligible disability-related assistance and supervision provided within the home, rather than the cost of the accommodation itself. Expenses such as rent, groceries, utilities and other ordinary living costs are generally the participant's responsibility. SIL is also different from Specialist Disability Accommodation (SDA), which relates to specially designed housing for eligible participants with specific housing needs.
At Inclusive Disability Assist, our goal is to support participants to feel genuinely at home while enjoying greater independence, security and quality of life. We believe that everyone deserves the opportunity to live in an environment where their individuality is celebrated, their choices are respected and they are supported to achieve their personal aspirations. Through compassionate, reliable and individualized support, we aim to make everyday living more manageable, empowering and rewarding.

What our
Your Goals. Your Dreams. Your Future. Our Priority!
At Inclusive Disability Assist, we believe that Supported Independent Living should be about much more than simply providing support within a home. It should be about helping you build the life you want to live, achieve your personal goals and celebrate every success along the way! We recognize that, all too often, Supported Independent Living arrangements can become focused on the routines, operational needs and priorities of the service provider rather than the aspirations of the individual receiving support. At IDA, we believe it should be the other way around. Your goals come first, and everything we do starts with YOU!
Whether your dream is to become more independent, learn to cook your favourite meal, manage your own money, develop new friendships, explore employment opportunities, participate more actively in your community or work towards a bigger life ambition, we are committed to helping you turn those aspirations into achievable realities. No goal is too small to celebrate, and every step forward matters!
Our approach is built on genuine collaboration, choice and control. We take the time to listen to each participant, understand what is important to them and work alongside their family members, chosen supporters, Support Coordinators and other relevant stakeholders to develop meaningful short-term, medium-term and long-term goals. Together, we identify practical steps, establish achievable milestones, recognize potential challenges and regularly review progress to ensure that supports continue to reflect the participant's evolving needs, interests and ambitions. Most importantly, participants remain at the centre of every conversation and decision, with their preferences and choices guiding the direction of their support.
And because achieving goals should be exciting, we make celebrating progress part of the journey! Whether it is mastering a new skill, taking the first step towards greater independence or accomplishing something once thought out of reach, we believe every achievement deserves recognition.
At Inclusive Disability Assist, we don't expect participants to fit around our service. We strive to shape our supports around the person, their goals and the future they want to create. Because Supported Independent Living isn't simply about where you live. It's about how you live, the opportunities you embrace and the confidence you build to live life your way.
our support evolves with you
We understand that life is constantly changing, and so are the needs, abilities, goals and aspirations of the people we support. That's why our Supported Independent Living (SIL) model is designed to be flexible, responsive and adaptable, evolving alongside you every step of the way! Whether your support needs increase, decrease or become more complex over time, our commitment remains the same: ensuring you receive the right support, from the right people, with the right skills, at the right time.
We recognize that quality Supported Independent Living is never a one-size-fits-all approach. As your circumstances change, your supports should change too! At IDA, we are committed to providing appropriately skilled, experienced and trained Disability Support Workers who understand your individual needs and have the knowledge and confidence to deliver safe, consistent and person-centered support. Our team participates in ongoing professional development, competency assessments and specialized training to ensure their skills remain relevant and responsive to the participants they support. This includes accredited and non-accredited High Intensity Support Skills training, Positive Behaviour Support education, participant-specific training, and ongoing professional development tailored to individual support requirements. Where participants have more complex needs, we work alongside relevant health professionals and specialists to ensure our Support Workers receive appropriate instruction, guidance and competency assessments before undertaking specialized support tasks.
But adapting our supports isn't just about training. It's about listening, communicating and working together! We actively engage with participants, their family members, chosen supporters, Support Coordinators, allied health professionals and other relevant stakeholders to maintain a thorough and current understanding of each participant's circumstances, preferences, health requirements and evolving support needs. Through regular communication, collaborative planning, ongoing reviews and proactive adjustments, we aim to identify changes early and ensure that our support arrangements, staffing and individualized care strategies continue to meet each person's needs.
Whether you're developing greater independence, learning new skills, experiencing changes in your health or requiring additional assistance with everyday activities, our approach is to adapt our services to support your journey, rather than expecting you to adapt to ours. We celebrate increasing independence just as much as we recognize the importance of providing additional assistance when life presents new challenges.
Your needs change and
You're Always Informed
Your Voice Matters, Every Step of the Way!
We believe that great Supported Independent Living starts with great communication! Your home, your life and your supports should always reflect your choices, your preferences and what matters most to YOU. That's why we are committed to ensuring every participant remains informed, involved and empowered in decisions about their support. Whether it's a change to your daily routine, the Support Workers assisting you, your personal goals or the way your supports are delivered, we believe decisions should be made WITH you, not FOR you!
We understand that everyone communicates differently, and that's something we embrace! At IDA, we take the time to understand each participant's preferred communication style, individual abilities and unique communication needs. Whether you prefer face-to-face conversations, written information, visual aids, Easy Read documents, assistive communication technology or support from someone you trust, we adapt our approach to ensure information is accessible, understandable and meaningful to you. We encourage questions, welcome feedback and provide opportunities for participants to express their views, make informed choices and actively participate in decisions affecting their everyday lives.
We also recognize that strong communication and collaboration create better outcomes! With each participant's consent and in accordance with their wishes, we actively involve family members, guardians, nominees, Support Coordinators, allied health professionals and other relevant stakeholders in important discussions and planning. By bringing the right people together, sharing relevant information and maintaining open lines of communication, we can better understand changing circumstances, respond to concerns, review support arrangements and ensure that each participant's needs, preferences and aspirations remain at the centre of everything we do. Importantly, the involvement of others is always guided by the participant's rights, wishes and decision-making arrangements, ensuring their voice is never overshadowed.
Our commitment to communication doesn't stop once your SIL supports begin. We believe in ongoing conversations, regular updates, genuine consultation and meaningful opportunities for feedback. As your needs and circumstances evolve, we work collaboratively with you and your chosen support network to ensure everyone understands what is happening, why decisions are being considered and how those decisions may affect your support. We aim to provide clear explanations, listen carefully to your concerns and ensure you have the information and support needed to make choices with confidence.
